On Saturday Granitos held a Health Brigade at the foundation. Doctors were available throughout the day for parents to bring in their children to receive check-ups and fluoride treatments. Many of the kids are underweight and/or undernourished, and they are prescribed supplements, often at a great cost to their parents.

Rafael is a father of five, three of which participate in our summer activities. He volunteers with the foundation, and provides greatly appreciated assistance to us throughout the day. All of his children require prescriptions to be filled, an expense that will run him somewhere between 100.000 and 200.000 pesos. As a thank you we put some of our left over budget to having these all filled.

During the day, our group held a Hygiene workshop. All of the kids created a hygiene booklet with pictures and information about how to keep oneself clean. Washing hands, brushing teeth, wearing clean clothes, rinsing off fruit before its eaten, etc.

I later spoke with the president of the Cartagena chapter, and he said next year it would be good for us to focus even more on this topic, especially as some of the older kids are now reaching puberty. Hopefully through our supply drives we can put together hygiene bags, containing things like deodorant and soap, to give to each kid for next summer.
